at the center of the design stands the adamgasse 3–5 block, which acts as a core and becomes the nodal point of the entire new structure. existing annexes are removed and brought into a symbiosis through the new intervention. the vertical, rhythmically articulated column structure is taken up in the design, intensified, and serves as the structural framework of the new four-storey addition. a hovering above. the columns function, in materiality and form, both as constructive elements and as architectural–design features. they absorb the existing architecture and further reinforce it through the dark pigmentation of the concrete and through the relief-like integration of artistic images and ideas. embracing this core is a new volume that winds around it and, through deliberate distances, generates spaces, carries light courts within it, and brings the exterior into the interior. moreover, this volume leads through the different levels, parallels plazas and green areas, and extends onto the roofs of the surrounding neighborhood. this belt plays with distances, heights, projections and recesses, cantilevers, and forms part of the axis between bahnhofstrasse and bozner platz. passages are integrated into the architecture and additionally create new spatial experiences, whether while strolling or within the interior. openings become courtyard situations, passages become bridge elements, and precisely chosen transitions connect to the exterior space.
