landscape diagram is a research project that emerged from an open-ended dialogue between bergmeisterwolf and the artist claudia barcheri. with a view to grasping the essence of specific places, the process investigates the relationships that bind people to a particular setting. claudia barcheri translates her analyses of the situation on the spot into a series of bar diagrams, while bergmeisterwolf develops its studies using physical models that juxtapose horizontal strata. in the model on display at the stadt galerie-galleria civica in bressanone, this logic is inverted; vertical sections are combined, interspersed with brushed steel plates of varying sizes, rather than working with parallel planar sections cut through the terrain. the piece, particularly the steel panels, sparks associations with diagrams that plot data along the x and y axis. this mode of interpreting a location opens up unexpected vantage points, offering new keys with which to read the land. at the same time, the model represents an ambitious regional planning project that brings together landscape and architecture, as building becomes a transformational act of place-making.
